Nils Lofgren says that with 2007's Magic and now Working On A Dream, Springsteen is riding a crest of creativity he hasn't seen in many years: "This is certainly the closest two albums have come out in his history with the E Street Band. And that usually speaks to an excitement that is born of writing first. And he's as great a writer as there's ever been in history. So I think it reflects throughout the whole record. Yeah, great production, great musicianship, great singing -- but that's a given."
